Greetings in Christ! My name is Mark Prichard, and I am the Senior Pastor at Crossroads North River. I am excited to announce that Crossroads North River is now hosting the annual Pat Campbell Fighting Cancer 5K. Since 2010, the Pat Campbell Fighting Cancer 5k race has been an important part of the Toronto, Ohio community and raises donations for local Ohio Valley cancer patients.
A special thank you to the previous race directors and partners of this race to include George Komar, Jenny Dickinson, Noah Long’s Family and many others.
Without the foundation they created for this race, none of this would be possible.
Lastly and most importantly, had it not been for the continued generosity of the Campbell Family, this event may have ended in 2022. Thankfully, after personally meeting with them to discuss continuing this event, they graciously provided their blessing and donated money enabling us to continue the event for years to come. We would like to share some details on the man that they love and made a significant impact on the Ohio Valley and those that knew him….
Attorney William D. “Pat” Campbell died December 10, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center West. He was born on March 17, 1925, in Steubenville, Ohio, son of the late C.W. and Geraldine Cooper Campbell.
After graduating as Valedictorian of the Wintersville High School Class of 1943, he entered the United States Navy under the V-12 program at Ohio Wesleyan University. In 1944, he was sent to Marquette University under the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program. In 1945, he graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor of Naval Science degree.
After graduation, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and served for eight months aboard the battleship U.S.S. North Carolina. After being discharged from the Navy in 1946, he attended The Ohio State University Law School, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He received his Doctor of Laws degree in 1949.
After graduation, Mr. Campbell joined the law firm of Francis, Irvine, Hayes, and Cooper. He retired as a partner in the law firm of Hayes, Cooper, Campbell, and Prest.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the Empire United Methodist Church, a past president of the Jefferson County Bar Association, a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the association’s Ethics Committee, and a member of the American Bar Association. He was also a member of the Steubenville Country Club, the BPOE Lodge #231, the Jefferson County Sportsman’s Association, and a director of the Miners and Mechanics Savings Bank.
Our deepest gratitude to Mr. Campbell’s wife, Patricia, and her son David for allowing us the opportunity to continue this charitable event in Pat’s honor.
We are asking area businesses to sponsor this important event. Last year, the 5k raised over $24,000.00. Since 2010, this event has donated over $215,000.00 to help assist cancer patients with needed items during their treatments. We are hoping to continue our annual donation this year with your continued generosity. The downloadable sponsorship form found below outlines the different giving levels and the benefits associated with each.
